Although Buckeye Plumbing has been around for nearly 30 years now, few people know that the company started in a garage. The owner, Kevin Gillum, relocated from Ohio in 1981 to West Palm Beach, Florida. He began working in the Plumbing Division for a large Construction Company. The Construction Company closed it’s separate divisions in order to sub-contract and Kevin found himself going to work for someone. He tried that – didn’t like it. He didn’t have much to lose, so he decided to give business a try. He started with his garage. Then to a shed in his yard that served as his warehouse. Next - a small rental space. He started with a couple friends helping out and some material bills. He did business with people on his word and a hand-shake. In those early years, Buckeye Plumbing did not have a service department. When customers called in for repairs, they were referred to other service companies that we knew had the same customer-oriented philosophy as us. After years of turning work away, we decided to begin our own service division. Buckeye Plumbing Services was born. We began to focus on special needs within the plumbing industry and began our Water Services and Backflow Divisions. Word spread and so did the work. Buckeye grew to over 150 employees and expanded to Port St. Lucie area to provide service for Builders and Residents. Although Buckeye has since reduced in size (along with Construction industry) the Company remains strong in both New Construction and in our Service Business. And YES! It is still family owned and operated. You can reach Kevin at the office morning, noon and a lot of nights. His Mom, Brother, 2 of his four Daughters and Son-in-law, along with his Wife, work full time. Two other daughters work part-time. If you call for emergency service on our after hours system – he gets the message too! |
